How to Speed up Computer Browsing

When you use My Network Places to browse, it usually takes a long time to list the other computers on the LAN. This is because Computer Browser checks for the scheduled tasks on other machines before listing the shared resources present on the computers. That means you would have to go to Start à Programs à Accessories à System Tools à Schedules Tasks.

Instead of doing all that, you can modify the Registry to turn off the checking by modifying the registry. To do that, please follow these steps:

1. Run regedit
2. Open the Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Remote Computer\NameSpace
3. Delete this key: {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}
4. Reboot after closing the Registry.
