NIC has a green light on but no listed under Device Manager

Situation: One home user called us for help. He could access the Internet last night, but not this morning. He said he didn't make any changes.

What we did:

  1. Ipconfig displayed no NIC.
  2. The NIC (build in) had a green light on.
  3. The Device Manager didn't list any NIC.
  4. Safe Mode displayed the NIC under the Device Manager.
  5. The client mentioned that the area had thunderstone last night.
  6. The BIOS did list the NIC.

Resolution: Re-set BIOS by taking the battery out for 5 second and re-store it.
