How to determine/check the DNS suffix of a computer

To check the DNS suffix of a computer, use ipconfig /all command that should list Primary DNS Suffix and DNS Suffix Search List.

To determine the primary DNS suffix of the computer, right-click My Computer, click Properties, and then click Computer Name. Select Change if it is Windows XP and select Properties if it is Windows 2000. Then click More.

Situation: I have two computers, one is none-domain laptop and another is domain Desktop. The ipconfig /all of the laptop displays correct DNS Suffix on DNS Suffix Search List while Primary DNS Suffix is blank (no DNS Suffix). If I do ipconfig /all on the Desktop, it lists both Primary DNS Suffix and DNS Suffix Search List correctly. The reason for that is the laptop doesn’t join the domain and the primary DNS suffix of the computer is empty.
