How to configure QoS on NetVanta 1024ST

The NetVanta 1024ST provides Layer 2 QoS functionality to prioritize and manage packets, especially for IP Phone. Layer 2 QoS is based on 802.1p class of service (CoS) values that offers value (0-7). The lower # is lower priority. In other words, lower priority traffic can be dropped to allow higher priority traffic to be delivered.

You can use Web based utility to configure the CoS as showing below.

  1. Access the utility, use http://switchIP, for example, http://192.168.0.1.
  2. When prompted for the username and password, type the username and password (the default settings are admin and password).
  3. To access CoS settings that apply to a particular interface, click on Ports in the screen’s left pane (Figure 1)
  4. Once the Configuration screen appears, click on the port you wish to configure.
  5. General Port Information screen appears and select the Class of the Service (4 in our case. Figure 2).

Note: You can configure QoS settings on the entire switch also. To do that, click on Class of Service in the screen’s left pane.
