How to enable workstation security auditing

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Administrative Tools.

3. Double-click Local Security Policy to start the Local Security Settings MMC snap-in.

4. Double-click Local Policies to expand it, and then double-click Audit Policy.

5. In the right pane, double-click the policy that you want to enable or disable.

6. Click the Success (An audited security access attempt that succeeds) and/or Fail (audited security access attempt that fails) check boxes for logging on and logging off.

Note: 1. If you are setting auditing for a Web server that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5.0, search for the "Recommendations for Auditing on a Web Server That Is Running Windows 2000 and Internet Information Services 5.0".

2. If you are a member of a domain, and a domain-level policy is defined, domain-level settings override the local policy settings.
