Diagnose And Repair Computer Errors
The two main causes of computer errors on your PC, are software programs
and hardware devices installed on the system. This article will introduce
you to the initial steps that you can take to easily diagnose and repair
computer errors.
Diagnose and Repair Hardware Errors
Follow the steps listed below to diagnose the problem behind a hardware
error and repair it:
- Turn off your PC.
- Check and ensure that all the power chords and data cables used to
connect peripheral devices to your system are properly seated in their
sockets.
- Open up the box of your computer and ensure that all the adaptors,
data cables, CPU, and memory chips are properly seated in their slots.
- Use a vacuum device to clean-up any dust that might have accumulated
on the CPU components—do not use the vacuum too close to the components,
otherwise, you might damage them.
- Restart the computer.
If the error disappears, you have solved the problem and can stop
troubleshooting. However, if the error still remains, follow the steps
below.
- Open the Start menu, select Run,
type sysdm.cpl, and then select OK
button.
- Open the Hardware tab on the System Properties
dialog box and then click on the Device Manager button.
- In the Device Manager window, locate the faulty hardware—this will
be depicted as a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark within
it.
- Double-click on the faulty device to open its properties box.
- Check the Device status section on the
General tab to ensure that a problem with the device driver is
not causing the hardware error.
- If the driver is causing the problem, open the Driver
tab.
- On the Driver tab, you can perform the following task to repair
driver errors:
- Update Driver: If the error indicates that the
driver files are incorrect or outdated select the Update Driver
button to update the driver of your device.
- Uninstall Driver: If the error is occurring because
the currently installed driver on your PC is corrupt or damaged, select
the Uninstall button to remove the current driver and
then reinstall it to repair your error.
- Rollback Driver: If the error started occurring
soon after you have updated a driver, it is quite likely that this new
update is buggy. In this case, select the Rollback Driver
button to restore your old driver on the system.
Note: You may also click on the
Troubleshoot button on the General tab of the device properties box
to open the Troubleshooting wizard and diagnose the cause behind your error.
- If you are unable to fix the error by performing the steps listed
above, your hardware might be faulty and you may have to get it replaced
or repaired.
Software Errors
Follow the steps listed below to try and diagnose the problem behind a
software error and repair it:
- Many software errors are circumstantial and may occur due to
conflicts that usually disappear after you restart your PC. If your
computer freezes, you may need to hard boot your computer by hitting the
power off button.
- If the error follows the installation of new software, remove this
software to see if that rectifies the problem.
- If the error follows some major system configuration changes, try to
undo these changes to see if they are generating the error.
- Use a Windows
registry cleaner tool to scan and repair registry errors to repair
software errors caused by a damaged registry.
- Perform a full system scan using updated antivirus and antispyware
tools to resolve software issues caused by virus and spyware infections.
- Many software errors, such as the cCsvchst.exe error occur due to
the existence of obsolete program files on your computer. To resolve
this issue, update your operating system, software programs, and device
drivers installed on your PC.
Note: To repair the
cCsvchst.exe error, you will have to update the Norton 2007 product
installed on your system.
- If none of the above steps resolve the error, then on a Windows XP
and Windows Vista computer, you may use a System Restore utility to
restore your system to the last known working condition.
