XP logon slow in child domain Situation: The Company just created a child domain for HR. XP computer logon takes over 5 minutes. They did check these:
Analysis: By default, a computer running Windows 2000/XP registers only one name in DNS, which is hostname.PrimaryDNSSuffix, for example bob.chicagotech.net. However, if the computer belongs to a Domain Name Server zone, for example ms-mvps.chicagotech.net with a name that is different from the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) domain name, chicagotech.net, the computer should join both domains during startup. Resolution: Select the "Use this connection’s DNS suffix in DNS registration" option in the DNS tab of Advanced Server TCP/IP settings. The ipconfig /all displays like this; Windows IP Configuratio Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : bob Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : chicagotech.net Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : chicagotech.net.
