Q: Processor fan does not shut off after selecting standby mode.

A: The following Information is applicable for WindowsXP.

Solution 1: -System is still in original factory condition. (HD has not been formated).
In the C:\Dell directory, you will find three files: USBS3KB.reg.; Uwakeon.exe; Uwakeoff.exe.
To fully enable a USB keyboard or mouse to wake from S3, there is a two-step process:
1) Double-click on the USBS3KB.REG file and it will merge a registry key into the registry to enable USB keyboards and mice for S3 standby mode.
2) Double-click on the Uwakeon.exe file. This sets the USB keyboard and mouse settings in Device Manager to allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.
Once done, reboot the system and test.
3) Verify the power management settings for both the mouse and keyboard.
Go to Device Manager, Keyboard, in Keyboard properties goto Power Management.
Check the box for 'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby'.
Then click Apply or Ok.
Follow the same steps for the mouse properties...

Option 2: -System has been formated or changed from original factory condition.
1) Download (Eable_S3.exe) from the Dell files page to your desktop.
http://support.dell.com/FileLib/Format.aspx?ReleaseID=R36030.
2) Launch the file and follow the install prompt.
3) Change the power management settings for the keyboard and mouse in the device manager.
Go to Device Manager, Keyboard, in Keyboard properties goto Power Management. Check the box for 'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby'. Then click Apply or Ok. Follow the same steps for the mouse properties...
