How to move database in Exchange 2010 running on Hyper-V - Step by step with screenshots

Situation: the client is running Exchange 2010 on one Windows 2008 R2 Virtual Machine. The database on C drive is out of the spaces. He is planning to add a virtual disk to the VM and then move the database from C drive to the new disk and ask us to help him.

Procedure: 1. Follow this post How to create a virtual hard disk in Hyper-V to create VHD.

2. Follow this post How to Add a Virtual Hard Disk in Hyper-V to add VHD to the VM.

3. Run EMC.

4. In the console tree, navigate to Organization Configuration > Mailbox.

5. Highlight the database you want to move, and click Move Database Path in the action pane.

6. In the Move Database Path window, modify the database location. In our example, we just replace D (drive) with C (drive)

7. Click Move to start the move. When it is successful, click Finish.

8. Now all mailbox and information have been moved from C drive to E drive.
