How to validate SMTP gateway address

1. Run Command Prompt.

Type telnet followed by the SMTP gateway address and then number 25. for example, telnet chicagotech.net 25.

3. Press Enter. If thee SMTP gateway address is not valid, the response contains this message: "Could not open connection to the host on port 25: Connect Failed. If it is valid, you will receive message similar this one:

"220 mail.chicagotech.net Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.1
830 ready at Tue, 5 Aug 2008 10:06:30 -0500?
