How to configure NetBIOS over TCP/IP

1. Use the Properties of the LAN.

Right-click Local Area Connection (or the name of another connection, if appropriate), click Properties, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click the Properties button. On the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties page, click the Advanced button, and click the WINS tab. Select one of the following options by clicking on it: Default, Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, or Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Note: The default option specifies that this computer use the NetBIOS setting specified by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. If this computer uses a static IP address rather than an address provided by a DHCP server, or if the DHCP server does not provide a NetBIOS setting, then NetBT is enabled.

2. Modify the Registry. Run regedit and navigate to

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters\Interfaces\interface-name. REG_DWORD default value is 1 which enables NetBT. To disable NetBT, change the value to 2.
