Guidelines for Configuring a Virtual Network
-
You must create a private virtual network even if the virtualization
server they reside on is not connected to any network,
-
All Virtual machines connecting in the same virtualization server should
be connected to the same private virtual network.
-
If you need to connect a virtual machine to a physical network, connect
it to a virtual network that is configured to an external network
adapter.
-
When you need virtual machine on a virtualization server to connect to
virtual machines on another virtualization server, you must create an
external network.
-
If you want to attach multiple
virtual networks to a single physical network adapter and would keep the
networks completely isolated from each other, you should use unique VLAN
IDs,.
-
When complete segregation of networks is not necessary, you can
configure multiple subnets on the same virtual network to be connected
to the same physical network adapter. In this case, two virtual machines
on the same network with different IP subnets would not interact with
each other.
-
You must use a legacy network adapter if you need to perform a
network-based installation of the guest operating system or when
integration services are not installed in the guest operating system.
-
A regular virtual network adapter would work only if the virtual machine
driver is installed. On all supported operating systems, you must
install integration services in the guest operating system to install
the virtual machine driver.
-
A legacy network adapter can work without installing the virtual machine
driver. Note that communications through a legacy network adapter are
slower than through a virtual network adapter.
-
If you connect a virtual network to a physical network adapter that uses
a static IP address, the new connection will overwrite the current
static settings.
-
You cannot connect a virtual network to a wireless network adapter.
Therefore, you cannot provide wireless networking capabilities to
virtual machines.
