Adding a Delegation for the Zone of the remote office DNS in the main office DNS

Since the DC in the remote office will be configured as DNS servers and we want the DNS servers in the remote office to be authoritative for their own zones, we need to add delegations for the DNS servers in the remote office DC to the DNS servers in the main office. To add a delegation record for the DC in the remote office, follow these steps:

1. Log on to main office DC as a domain administrator.

2. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click DNS.

3. Click DNS_Server_Name, expand Forward Lookup Zones, and then click the DNS name of the domain. In the example scenario, this name is chicagotech.net.

4. Right-click this domain, click New Delegation and then, in the New Delegation Wizard, click Next.

5. In the Delegated domain box, type remote_server and then click Next.

6. On the Name Servers page, click Add to add the delegation records.

7. In the New Resource Record dialog box, type the fully qualified domain name and IP address for the server that you plan to install it as DC in the remote office.

8. Click OK, click Next, and then click Finish.
